The Grand Parade (Wednesday 19 August)
Steeped in long history, the Grand Parade of Floats would not be such a celebrated event without its traditional opening ceremony. The Right Worshipful Mayor of Hythe with the other 13 Mayors of the Confederation of the Cinque Ports, all gather in Hythe, in full mayoral regalia, to enjoy this unique water carnival. They arrive by float at the Centre Stage of the Royal Military Canal, before the parade of decorated floats begins. After the daylight parade, as dusk falls, there is an interval for spectators to enjoy fireworks before the illuminated parade of floats, a fresh and fascinating picture, magically reflected in the water.
Live music
There's something for everyone. Join us at the canal bank for a series of concerts the weekend before the grand parade. Bring a picnic and drinks, sit back and enjoy the entertainment. (If you do bring food and drinks, please take your rubbish home so our beautiful canal can continue to be enjoyed by everyone, including our ducks, swans, fish and other wildlife.)
New for 2026: Fringe Events
These are in planning and to be confirmed. Look out for details coming soon. The committee is very excited to be expanding the Fete in the local community beyond our historic canal.
